AESO

Oh and I forgot to mention....after all our hard work so far AESO (Alternate Entry Student Organization) is now an official graduate school organization!! I put together a proposal and the graduate advisor and Dean of the nursing school passed it! There is a lot of work ahead of us, but I am so ready to be a leader among the students again and get things accomplished that we would like done!!

Here is a picture from UT's website of organizations:

New Blog Layout/Update

So spring has finally arrived (at least on the calendar...it's kind of cold still in the mornings!), and I decided to change the layout of my blog for now - we'll see how long I like it or if something better comes up.

Spring break is now over and school came back full force. I have a lot to do this weekend...but it still isn't yet as busy as it has been. I have more down time (well I'm sure I should be doing something else though...studying for tests, reading a whole novel for pedi, etc). ANYWAYS - spring break was good - went by quickly though. Here are some pictures from when my cousins came to visit me!

This is Bryce Avary the lead singer from The Rocket Summer. GREAT concert.

Here he is when he jumped into the crowd still playing his guitar.

As for school, we have now moved onto to pediatrics instead of maternity. I really like my teacher so far. His name is Mike; it's the first time I have had a male teacher at the nursing school. I'm excited about it because hopefully he will bring a different perspective as well as I have heard that he is an awesome professor. I'm at Dell Children's and this Tuesday will be our first day at the pediatric hospital - exciting - but also nerve wracking!!
I took this picture from the school website - my teacher Mike - he has lost weight since this picture too.

My adult health is going ok - besides the fact that I don't like that class. Last week I had 3 patients and it was SOOO MUCH WORK. They were really nice people, but needed a lot of help!! I was so stressed after that day I had to go get some Chick-fil-a to reward myself. haha. But the good news is that I only have 3 more clinical days in there (the other three are all off unit - ER one of those...excited about that!!).

Genetics is....genetics. Not much going on in that class even though genetics is a huge healthcare topic right now (besides healthcare reform). I am kind of apathetic toward that class. Ok and I just realized that it is the end of March so we only have 6 weeks of classes left then a few finals. I'm sure it will fly by.

Countdown to NCLEX/RN: 5 months
Countdown until MSN/graduation: 21 months (ok that seems like forever. haha).

Break

Finally, a small but well deserved break. Granted, this semester hasn't been as hard or rigorous as previous ones, but as my friend Chelsea said "we have checked out for the semester...not just until spring break...until May." haha.

I'm sad maternity is over - guess I'll get more of that once I start my official Master's coursework. Now on to peds! This is definitely going to be an interesting experience, and of course our teachers have already been emailing us stuff to do. That will have to wait until the Sunday before school starts :)

Thanks to my new found online movie watching/HBO/Blockbuster/my personal DVD collection - I have watched 6 movies in 2 days - wow. I usually never do this. I've watched: The Proposal, The Ugly Truth, 10 Things I Hate About You, Towelhead, 17 Again, and Up in the Air. It's been great just sitting around doing nothing. Today I did go to the Austin Kite Festival though and that was fun. I can't believe I've never been and I have lived here for 4.5 years. I still have lots to do in Austin that I haven't gotten the chance to. I'll get around to it - and new things pop up all the time.

Plans for this spring break - go visit Kels and Monica in CS for a few days, pick up my cousin in Montgomery, come to Austin and listen to some music. Sounds like a plan - a little improv will happen between all those things (and volunteering at the Milk Bank). It's going to be awesome.

Stay posted.
